From The SEO Perspective Blog Posts and Blog Comments Are Vastly Different Things

Many people are caught up in the frenzy of using blog posts as a way to get better Search Results. The problem is that people don't stop and look at the difference between Blog Posts and Blog Comments. While they are connected together, they are not even remotely related - at least from the SEO perspective. Knowing the difference can help save you a lot of time, money, and effort.

One of primary differences between Blog Posts and Blog Comments is their relation to the code that generates the webpage the Blog is displayed on. When it comes to Search Engine Optimization, location is everything. The higher something sits within the code the more relevant it is considered by the Search Bots. The Blog Post itself sits at the very top of the page and is essentially the "topic" the entire page is based on. Blog Comments on the other hand appear further down the page and are seen as different from the rest.

Blog Comments are all generated in such a way that it's easy for Search Bots to know they are not part of the Blog Post itself. As soon as content of any kind is deemed to be "user created" it automatically gets devalued by Search Engines. This is because too many people have tried to abuse such opportunities in the past in an attempt to scam their way into higher Search Results. It should also be mentioned that putting links to another website on your own is seen as an endorsement of that website. If user generated links were given full value it would mean the website owners are endorsing a website they have no connection with. That is also another reason why the Search Engines devalue such user generated content - to help protect website owners.

All of this means that making a Blog Comment isn't likely going to do anything for your Search Results. Even if you were to make thousands of them, their total combines effect would still be relatively small. However, as said in the beginning, making Blog Comments are not the same as making Blog Posts. Unlike Blog Comments, Blog Posts are given full value when it comes to the Search Bots. If you have a Blog on your own website it can have a huge impact on your Search Results. In many cases, having a frequently updated and topic specific blog can be what you need to drive your website to the top of the Search Results. But that's another topic of discussion.

Does this mean you shouldn't post Blog Comments anywhere? Far from it! Blog Comments serve a lot of other functions than just getting higher Search Results. One of the best uses of Blog Comments is to let other people know that you have a website and that they should come visit it. As long as your website is relevant to the topic being discussed in the original Blog Post many people likely will. It's also a great opportunity to interact with other people and help build a sense of community.
