When Should You Use Search Engine Optimization With A Website?

Sadly, the vast majority of people actually start using Search Engine Optimization when it's already too late. This can lead to very costly and time-consuming redesigns and rebuilds which can also result in being forced to abandon Search Engine Optimization efforts. Make sure you don't make the same mistakes - learn how to use Search Engine Optimization the right way.

The reality is that if you've even written a single line of code for your website it's already too late to maximize your Search Engine Optimization endeavors. That's because a vast majority of effective Search Engine Optimization revolves around the layout and design of the website. If you don't start with the right layout and design, you will never be able to fully take advantage of Search Engine Optimization - no matter how much you pay others to help you.

This is because Search Engines are build around the idea of "Relevancy" and without a good idea of how that works, you're in big trouble. Relevancy refers to the number of topics that exist on any given webpage or website. Think of Relevancy as a simple equation "1 / number of topics = relevancy". That means if you talk about three topics on a page you're relevancy for that page is 1/3.

Search Engines display results based first and foremost on relevancy. That means if your page has a relevancy of 1/3 it will be shown AFTER all other pages with a relevancy of 1 or 1/2. That one simple fact could send you to page 50 on the search engines - regardless of what else is happening on your website.

That means the first step to maximizing your Search Engine Optimization efforts is to try and design your website to discuss only one topic per page (or web section). With many websites that may not be possible - in which case you need to do your best to limit the topics discussed per page. The goal is to retain the highest level of relevancy possible - regardless of what content you plan on putting on the website.

So, if you really want to get the most possible from your Search Engine Optimization endeavors, be sure to start using Search Engine Optimization right from the start. If you wait to do it till the middle or at the end, you will already be too late.
